4 Special Services Provided By Boat Storage Facilities

If you have a boat, and you are ready to put it away at the end of summer and store it until next spring, you are going to want to work with a boat storage facility. A boat storage facility can provide you with a safe place to store your boat. Many boat storage facilities also provide you with additional services as well.

#1 Winterization

If you don't have the time or the know-how to winterize your boat, don't worry about it. Many boat storage facilities will winterize your boat for you. They have mechanics onsite that will take care of your boat's engine, and even provide you with a full report on the state of your engine as well as any problems or issues that they identify with your engine.

That said, even if you pay a facility to winterize your boat for you, you are still going to want to remove items that you don't need from the boat on your own and store those items separately. It is usually a smart idea to remove all electronic items from your boat and store them somewhere with climate control until you need them next.

#2 Shrink Wrap

Some people like to shrink-wrap their boats when they put them in storage. If you shrink-wrap your boat though, keep in mind that you will not be able to use your boat. However, many storage facilities have the equipment so that they can effectively shrink-wrap your boat. This will keep your boat well sealed and protected against the elements while it is in storage.

#3 Access to Power

If you just let the batteries on your boat sit all winter long, the batteries will more than likely be dead when you get your boat out of storage. When you get your boat out of storage, your batteries will be dead. If you want to keep your batteries charged throughout the winter, you are going to want to hook your batteries up to a trickle charger. A trickle charger is designed to slowly provide power to you battery so that it retains its charge. Many boat storage facilities will provide a set-up that allows you to hook-up a trickle charger so that you keep your boat's batteries ready to go.

#4 Work Area

Many boat storage facilities also provide work areas so that you can work on your boat while it is in storage. If you want to work on your boat over the winter time, make sure that you choose a storage facility that will provide you with the space you need to not only store your boat, but to also get some work done on it while it is in storage.
