Don't be fooled into taking just any type of storage and making it work for your items. If you care enough about your possessions to store them properly, be sure you are choosing the right type of storage. My name is Meghan, and I have a great deal of experience in long and short term storage. I have found that many people do not realize that they can find storage that is temperature controlled, provides a high level of security and keeps your things in perfect shape until you are ready for them. Let me help you decide how to store your possessions.

Whether you're moving long-distance, taking a long vacation overseas, or simply storing your car for the winter to protect it from the degrading influence of the cold weather, long-term storage is a reliable way to keep your car in good shape until you need it again. But it's important to take the right steps before storage and, similarly, when you're getting the car out of storage again. Here are some tips for what to do when getting your car out of storage to make sure it's in good shape for driving again.
Inspect
First, check the state of your car to make sure no damage has spontaneously occurred while you were away. Check for signs of pests, both in the interior and under the hood, and then check for leaks in the following:
Also check to see if hoses have any visible damage, as long-term storage can allow hoses to dry out and, sometimes, develop cracks. Use a tire pressure gauge to check tire pressure, too, because your tires may lose some pressure during storage. If the car has been stored for more than a year or so, you may wish to have it inspected more thoroughly, perhaps by a mechanic who can inspect the suspension and so on.
Replace
Because long-term storage can allow some fluids to evaporate a bit (or leak out through any holes in the hoses), you'll want to check and top off any and all fluids. This includes:
You should also check your battery and remove the trickle charger, make sure the battery is fully charged, and check to see that it's correctly installed before you start the car.
When you do finally start the car, check all the lights to make sure they work, then let the car run for a few minutes to allow it to warm up before you drive it away (but remember never to allow your car to run in an area that's not well ventilated). Then, take some time to give it a test drive, checking for correct functioning and giving the car's computer a few minutes to run through any diagnostics. Then, if it finds any problems, it will illuminate a warning light on the dashboard, at which point you can have your mechanic check out the problem.
